The Brief

SH Structures, a longstanding customer, approached us in 2023 to help with a bus station project they were working on for Transport for London. They needed to process and fabricate two large triangular steel frame sections, free issuing the main materials to us. However, the large triangular frames were proving problematic to fabricate and the sheer size was causing issues for transportation. They needed to find a solution to keep the project on track.

The Outcome

We redesigned the frames with the client, profiling smaller steel sections and butt welding them together in such a way that the joins were concealed by the frames. This made them viable for fabrication and transportation. The project entailed notching and mitres on the main beams as well as standard cutting and drilling. We procured all the necessary fittings and component parts for the job, profiling and drilling them in-house on our plate machine. The whole job was fabricated to Execution Class 3 & quality checked in-house to NSSS (National Structural Steelwork Specification for Building Construction). The project was completed within 10 working days, ahead of schedule. using free issue material, with SC4 providing all the fittings.
